We want to fight long term conditions through dietary intervention
Over 70% of health spend around the world is to treat the symptoms of long terms conditions. Astonishingly, most of these conditions (and in some cases up to 80%) are completely manageable, reversible and avoidable through dietary intervention. Amazing right?
Long term conditions are usually fatal. Having lost both my parents this way, I can personally attest to the suffering it can cause, both to the victims and their families and friends. My personal mission is to help others avoid these situations, and help people lead longer, healthier and happier lives.
Just watching what you eat - really?
The World Health Organisation have established the scientific basis of the relationship between diet and the major long term conditions. They highlight how COPD, Type 2 Diabetes, Cardiovascular disease (IHD, Stroke), and Cancer are all manageable or preventable through better nutrition control.
How prevalent are these diseases? The Global Burden of Disease is the world’s largest systematic, scientific effort to quantify the magnitude of health loss from all major diseases, injuries, and risk factors. The diagram shows the proportional causes of death of people above 50 globally.
Despite fundamentally needing food for survival, we are still at the early stages of our understanding of nutrition and how it effects our health.
What's so hard about dieting?
More scientific research has shown there are 3 factors that have a major influence in diet adherance:
Convenience - needs to be simple and quick, both in understanding what specifically to eat, getting the ingredients, and making the meals.
Budget - has to be affordable
Taste - has to personal tastes
